Plough Inn

The Plough Inn was situated on
School Road. This pub closed c1976. The landlord, who ran the pub on his
own, with the help of his locals, celebrated his 88th birthday shortly
before the pub closed. The pub, which was originally a beer house, sold one
beer, Elgood's Bitter, by gravity dispense.
The landlord delighted in recounting stories from WW2 when the land-girls
would flock to the pub after a day's work. The pub itself had become very
run-down. The landlord lived in a caravan in the garden. The building was
eventually demolished to make way for the access road, appropriately named
Plough Lane, to a new housing estate. |
