I used it a lot in the 1970s, while I was in the
6th form of the RGS. The teachers at the School went to the Rats’ Castle (?)
further down Sydenham Road and the Three Pigeons. Bob Jones was the
landlord, and was lenient about the gage limit.. |

Old Gill was the landlord. Was oldest serving pub licensee at the time.
Always wore a smart waistcoat. Served us cider from the old quart
bottles, about 10d a pint then, as no tax on it back then. Pint of
Friary Meux about 1/10d then...... |
